Dental Cleaning & Check Ups
During your regular preventive appointments, you’ll receive two very important services our team uses to safeguard smiles of all ages every day. A “checkup” is basically an oral exam, in which we will look at your teeth, gums, bite, jaw, and existing dental work so he can catch potential issues during their earliest stages. And with a dental cleaning, one of our hygienists will expertly remove harmful plaque and tartar deposits from your teeth, specifically targeting those areas of your mouth that your brush and floss can’t reach at home. We recommend that everyone should have at least two checkups and cleanings each year.

Gum Disease Treatment
Did you know that the number one dental problem in the entire world is actually periodontal (gum) disease? This common infection attacks the gums, roots of the teeth, as well as the bone that supports them. Early symptoms include red, swollen, and bleeding gums, and left untreated, it’s actually the primary cause of adult tooth loss! During every checkup, we’ll look at your gums, and if we spot any signs of infection, we’ll use a deep cleaning designed just for the gums and a topical antibiotic to keep you and your smile protected.
Applied to the teeth as a liquid, dental sealants quickly harden into an invisible barrier that cavity-causing bacteria, plaque, and acids cannot cross. We typically use them to protect the back teeth of children, as they are extremely susceptible to developing cavities, but they can also be used to help adults who are prone to decay.
Do you regularly play sports, or do you have a little athlete at home? In order to protect our more athletic patients’ smiles from unexpected impacts while on the field, mat, or court, we are able to provide custom-made mouthguards. These are designed to fit each individual patient for comfort, but they are also much stronger and thicker than anything you’ll find in the store or online. Even better, properly fitting mouthguards have also been shown to reduce the risk of sports-related concussions.
Nightguards for Bruxism
If you or a loved one clench and grind your teeth while you sleep, this is actually a very common condition called bruxism, which typically occurs due to stress. Left untreated, this can severely wear down the teeth, making them more sensitive, and eventually cause them to fracture! To help patients with this problem, we will recommend that they wear a nightguard to bed. This small, custom-made oral appliance places a physical barrier between the teeth to keep them safe during the night.
Oral Cancer Screenings
When it comes to oral cancer, early detection is absolutely critical to successfully treating and surviving the disease, which is why we include an oral cancer screening as part of every regular checkup. During one, he’ll examine your lips, gums, tongue, cheeks, throat, neck, and face for any signs of cancerous tissues, and should he discover anything, he can quickly help you get follow-up treatment. The screening itself only takes a few minutes, but it’s a few minutes that could literally save your life.
Fluoride is a mineral that is often added to public water sources because it has long been shown to help strengthen the teeth against tooth decay and cavities. However, with the growth in popularity of unfluoridated bottled water, more and more people aren’t getting enough in their diet to keep their teeth fully protected. This is why we include a topical fluoride treatment as part of every regular checkup. It’s fast, it’s painless, and it will help keep your family’s smile healthy between dental appointments.
